What does it mean to be a Rebel?

Rebels go against expectations from others and from themselves.

A sense of autonomy, choice, and freedom is important. They often ask themselves, "What do I want to do today?"

Rebels value authenticity and self-determination. They reach their goals in their own ways, instead of doing what they're "supposed to do".

On the flipside, Rebels frustrate others because they can't be told what to do. In fact, the act of asking them to do something will make them want to do the opposite.

They don't respond well to supervision, advice, directions, reminders, nagging, or repetition. They are spontaneous and act as if the rules don't apply to them.

The best way to motivate Rebels is to:

  1. Appeal to identity. Rebels often value their ideal identities and act in a way that's consistent with that.
  2. Give them the information and explain the possible consequences, then give them a choice. For example, "Studies show that people who don't exercise at least once a week have an increased risk of auto-immune and metabolic diseases. But of course it's your choice to decide what you want to do."

If you are a Rebel, here's how you can form a healthy habit of exercising:

  1. Focus on your WHY. Have clarity in your goals and objectives.
  2. Think about how being fit is consistent with who you are or want to become.
  3. Exercise in a way that is unique and different from other people.

Once you understand your tendency and motivations, it's easier to start and follow through with a new healthy habit.
